Sarajane Hakopian was discovered dead Monday afternoon by a neighbor inside her log-cabin-style home. Hanover sheriff's officials have not yet released a cause of death, but they are investigating the case as a homicide. Brian S. Mallory, 42, was arrested in a bus station in Jacksonville, Fla., shortly before 1 a.m., Tuesday. Hakopian's minivan was found nearby. Mallory is charged with grand larceny but is under investigation in Hakopian's death, police said. The minivan had several bumper stickers, among them "coexist." The word exemplifies Hakopian's love and care for all people, her friends said Tuesday. But it also may have helped lead to her death. Police described Mallory as Hakopian's boyfriend. Deputies have charged Nickolas Jermaine Miller who they say sexually assaulted and beat a woman to death after taking her from a Chesterfield County store. The body of Beverly Hope Melton, 30, was found in a secluded area of Kershaw County after the suspect led deputies to the woman's body. Miller is currently detained in Kershaw County on a murder charge, and deputies have planned to charge him with kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. Melton and Miller did not know each other before the "horribly brutal" attack. Miller began harassing Melton at a convenience store. Melton called her grandmother and told her she was afraid and that Miller was following her. Miller admitted to killing Melton, and led them to her body. The final decision on whether Rayshawn Johnson will be executed will be resolved. A 19 year old Anthony Kirkland was first convicted in the 1987 beating death of his then girlfriend that he also set on fire. Kirkland served 16 years of a 25 year sentence. He was paroled in 2003, and left unsupervised after 13 months of probation. Kirland was sent back to prison in 2007 for trying to have sex with a 13 year old, he was out and living at the now notorious Pogue Center in a years time, this time he was also a convicted sex offender. From the time he was first paroled in 2003 to the arrest in the rape and murder of Esme Kenney; Kirkland is accused of rape, assault, and multiple counts of murder. KOKOMO, Ind. -- The boyfriend of a Kokomo woman whose 11-month-old son died from a blow to the head was arrested Wednesday in the boy's death. Derrick A. Fox, 28, took Malaki Lindley to a Kokomo hospital early Sunday unconscious and unresponsive, said Kokomo police Lt. Don Whitehead. An autopsy later determined that the boy had died from blunt force trauma to the head. Fox was taken into custody on Wednesday and preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, Whitehead said. Mahato, 29, originally of Tatangar, India, was a doctoral student in computational mechanics. He was found shot to death inside his apartment a few blocks south of Duke's campus in January.

Lovette and Demario James Atwater, 21, were charged with first-degree murder in the death of Eve Carson. The 22-year-old was found last week lying on a street about a mile from the North Carolina campus in nearby Chapel Hill. A Tulsa man who was convicted last month of three murders in Owassowas formally sentenced to three death sentences. The Judge set an execution date for Clarence Goode Jr. Jurors found Goode, 31, guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of Kayla Burchett, 10, a Collinsville fifth-grader; her mother, Tara Burchett-Thompson, 25; and the slain woman's husband, Mitch Thompson, 28. Their bodies were found Aug. 26, 2005, at the couple's home. The jury imposed a death sentence on each murder count, and Goode received a concurrent 20-year term for first-degree burglary. He has maintained that he is innocent. Co-defendant Kenneth D. Johnson faces a Feb. 19 trial on the same charges. Tulsa police have arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of a 13-year-old Union Alternative School student. Online jail records indicate that Marquis Milton Bullock, 18, faces charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. Investigators believe he picked up Cori Baker, 13, after school on Friday afternoon. Baker reportedly told friends that Bullock was going to take her to the mall to get a Christmas present for her sister. Police documents indicate that detectives arrested Bullock after interviewing witnesses who said that he has a relationship with Baker's sister.The arrest report indicates that Bullock's description matches that of the man seen picking the girl up from school, and his vehicle -- a red Firebird -- was caught on tape at the school parking lot. Robert Shelton Mitchell, 43, was being held on a $5 million bond after being arraigned as a fugitive. He will face first-degree murder and capital sexual battery charges in the death of Cherie Morrisette of Jacksonville. The Mandarin Middle School student body was found on Dec. 8, 1996, floating in the St. John's River about 10 miles south of the  apartment she shared with her mother and sister.   An autopsy determined that Cherie drowned shortly after her disappearance on Dec. 2, 1996, and was alive when she either fell into the river or was thrown in. Police labeled the death suspicious, and authorities found a small DNA sample on her underwear and body. Mitchell lived in nearby Middleburg at the time of the girl's death, police said Thursday. A judge in Alexandria ruled that Gregory Murphy was still not competent to stand trial for allegedly killing 8-year-old Kevin Shifflet in 2000. The boy was stabbed to death as he played in front of his grandmother's home in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood.

At one time, Murphy was found incompetent to stand trial and was put on medication. Last month, Evan Nelson, a court-appointed psychologist, said Murphy's condition had improved and he was fit for trial. But Nelson examined Murphy again on Thursday, and said he was still not well enough to face charges. Doctors said Murphy's objective test data indicate he is functioning in the mentally retarded range and exhibits indications of significant brain impairment.
